Chow Yun Fat is a Hong Kong actor who was born on Lamma Island, Hong Kong, on May 18, 1955. He studied at the City University of Hong Kong and was first cast as an actor by the Hong Kong broadcaster TVB in the late 1970s. He appeared in the smash-hit drama series “The Bund” in 1980 and went on to become one of the biggest stars in Asian cinema, striking up a partnership with the director John Woo. Together, the two went on to work on the blockbuster hits “City on Fire” (1987) and “Hard Boiled” (1992). He followed up with further box office smash hits like “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon” (2000) and 2003’s “Bulletproof Monk” – as well as the more recent “Cold War 2” in 2016.

Chow Yun Fat

A cowardly and struggling artist-turned-criminal named Lee Man (Aaron Kwok) is extradited from a prison in Thailand to Hong Kong to help the police track down a mysterious and fearsome criminal genius known only as Painter (Chow Yun Fat).

After initially refusing to talk, the police let Lee Man see a former girlfriend who tells him that Painter has killed her lover and wants to take her life, too. This eventually seems to convince him to spill the beans to the police.

He explains how when he was a struggling artist in Canada, Painter convinced him to join a counterfeit United States dollar printing ring – using Lee Man’s advanced copying skills.

Lee Man goes on to explain how he eventually joined Painter’s gang, having already lost everything he ever held dear – but eventually found he had bitten off far more than he could chew.

However, as Lee Man reluctantly remembers his time in the criminal gang, the plot begins to thicken – and he continues to warn of the terrible retribution that will befall him if Painter learns he is cooperating with the police.

Criminal artists 

In the late second century BCE, the Han Dynasty is beginning to crumble. The ruthless minister Cao Cao (Chow Yun Fat) has effectively seized control of the government after traveling to the east of the realm to bring a fearsome warlord to heel. The Han Emperor is now a mere puppet, and Cao Cao has himself named the King of the Wei. He then proceeds to build a magnificent structure called the Bronze Bird Terrace to showcase his power to the whole of China. But his tyrannical rule is not to everyone’s liking. Orphaned by Cao Cao’s past cruelties, they were recruited as part of secret, revenge-filled plot to infiltrate Cao Cao’s inner circle...and kill him. Their mission is nothing if not perilous, however. And if the tyrant discovers the truth about the couple, great horrors could unfold for them!
