Dearest

In 2006, Sanada Rio’s (Yuriko Yoshitaka) peaceful town was shaken to its core after one of the local townspeople went missing. Without enough evidence and information to go on, the case was never solved and the missing individual was never found. Though everyone in the town, including Sanada, eventually moved on with their lives, the case was never truly forgotten. Fifteen years later, Sanada has grown into a hardworking businesswoman who has met with incredible success. A leader in her field, Sanada is proud of her accomplishments, and rightly so. But when the missing person from all those years ago suddenly reappears in her life, everything she’s worked so hard for begins to crumble around her. Suddenly a prime suspect in a case that now involves murder, Sanada soon finds herself coming face-to-face with Daiki Miyazaki (Kouhei Matsushita), the detective in charge of the case and her old flame.  Forced to face the ghosts of her past, Sanada’s memories begin to resurface, leaving her to wonder what happened all those years ago. Certain Sanada knows more than she’s letting on, will Daiki be able to prove her connection to the case or will his investigation prove her innocence? Peppered with romance and mystery, “Dearest” is a 2021 Japanese mystery romance thriller drama directed by Ayuko Tsukahara, Takeyoshi Yamamoto, and Yoshiaki Murao.
