I Want To Hold Aono-kun So Badly I Could Die

Yuri Kariya (Hikaru Takahashi) is a high school student who rarely has deep thoughts about anything in particular. But one day, she (literally) bumps into a boy from another class at school and falls in love with him at first sight. His name is Ryuhei Aono (Sato Shori), and the two embark on a passionate relationship. Their love story appears to be short-lived, however. Just a fortnight after meeting, Ryuhei Aono is killed in a tragic road accident. But even though they only spent two weeks together, Yuri Kariya is so distraught that she decides she cannot face another day without him… She resolves to kill herself by slashing her wrists with a knife. But just as she is about to do so, Ryuhei Aono’s ghost appears and beseeches her to stop. She says she will do as he says, but only if he agrees to continue their relationship – albeit with him as a ghost. He agrees. But loving a ghost proves to be harder than it seems. Nobody else can see Ryuhei Aono but Yuri Kariya, meaning that when people see her speaking to him, it appears as though she is talking to herself, or is on the phone. With help from Masayoshi Fujimoto (Kamio Fuju), one of Ryuhei Aono’s friends, and Mio Horie (Ririka), a classmate with a deep understanding of horror movies, she tries to get on with her life. But when she convinces Ryuhei Aono’s ghost to briefly take control of her body, things start to get weird! This drama was based on a manga series of the same name that was penned by Shiina Umi and began serialization in 2016. “I Want to Hold Aono-kun so Badly I Could Die” is a 2022 Japanese drama series that was directed by Smith.
