After Yang

Jake Fleming (Colin Farrell) and his wife Kyra (Jodie Turner-Smith) live with their adoptive child Mika (Malea Emma Tjandrawidjaja). They want to have a second child, but are unable to do so – so instead purchases an android “brother” for Mika – a “second-hand” model named Yang (Justin H. Min). However, rather than buying from an official producer, they buy from a reseller, and, finally, Yang stops functioning. Jake decides to try to fix Yang, but is frustrated in his efforts. Eventually, he finds an engineer who tries to repair Yang – but claims to have found a hidden camera inside the android. However, this device appears not to be quite what it first seemed – and instead turns out to be the key to Yang’s “memories.” What will happen when Jake starts to explore the life Yang lived before he became the Flemings’ son? And will their robot “child” ever come back to life – and rejoin the family? “After Yang” is a 2021 American film that was written and directed by Kogonada.
