Summer in Closed Eyes

Nhat Ha (Phuong Anh Dao) is a young woman from Da Lat, Vietnam, who is on a quest to find her father (Cong Ninh). The latter vanished from her family some 10 years ago, leaving her and her mother to live on the Japanese island of Hokkaido. A keen photographer, he would often send his family photos of the things he saw on the island. But all of a sudden, the photos stopped coming. With no way to contact her father, Nhat Ha decides to travel to Hokkaido to find him. But this quest is by no means an easy one: She speaks no Japanese, and navigating her way around the island could prove problematic. Fortunately, perhaps, she meets Akira (Takafumi Akutsu), a young, Japanese man with a love for 35mm film photography. Nhat Ha is also a keen photographer who also prefers analog cameras. Despite the fact that neither of the duo speaks a word of each other’s language, an unconventional friendship sparks between them. This could soon turn to romance, they begin to feel – but could untold secrets and forbidding language barriers impede Cupid’s progress? “Summer in Closed Eyes” is a 2018 Vietnamese movie that was directed by Cao Thuy Nhi.
