Honest Candidate

A third-term congresswoman with an incredibly sharp wit and an even sharper tongue, Joo Sang Sook (Ra Mi Ran) has worked hard to be where she is today. Able to talk her way into and out of anything she’d like, Sang Sook has built her entire political career on pretty words, the only problem is, every one of those words has been nothing but a lie. Currently running for her fourth term, Sang Sook is busy promising constituents everything they want to hear, but whether she follows through on any of her promises remains to be seen.  With only a few days left before the election, Sang Sook takes a much-needed break from the busy campaign trail to visit her grandmother. Living far away from the hustle and bustle of the city, Kim Ok Hee (Na Moon Hee) is tired of watching from afar as her granddaughter lies her way into office. Saying as much upon Sang Sook’s arrival, Ok Hee wishes, with all of her heart, that Sang Sook would never be able to lie again. Getting exactly what she wishes for, Ok Hee is delighted and Sang Sook is mortified when she wakes the next morning to find that she is completely incapable of telling a lie.  As election day draws ever-closer, Sang Sook is desperate to win the hearts of the people but it seems impossible when her entire campaign has been built around nothing but lies. Will this curse of honesty prove to be her undoing or will she find a way to make it work in her favor? Adapted from the Brazilian movie “O Candidato Honesto” directed by Roberto Santucci, “Honest Candidate” is a 2020 comedy film directed by Jang Yoo Jung.
