My Retirement, My Life

Michitaro Sano (Masao Kusakari) threw himself into his work life after his wife died almost two decades ago, and ever since has lived with his daughter Yumiko (Fumino Kimura). The latter has taken sole care of the house since her mother died, balancing her own working life with her duties at home. Michitaro Sano was almost oblivious to his daughter’s life while he was still working. But when he retires, he finds himself with almost nothing to do all day. With all this free time, he starts to learn more about his daughter’s life, and is surprised to learn that not only does she have a boyfriend that he did not know about, but that she is seriously thinking about getting married to him. She also asks him to start pulling his weight at home, helping with the chores for the very first time. As a distraction from his now-mundane home life, he decides to join a fitness group run by a local radio station – discovering a whole new group of people who help him learn about life after retirement. “My Retirement, My Life” is a 2018 Japanese movie that was directed by Takeo Kikuchi.
