Fist and Faith

In Manchuria, Northern China, in the 1930s, the local population is suffering under the yoke of Imperial Japanese invasion. The Japanese have attempted to replace Chinese culture with their own, and even want the locals to speak Japanese, rather than their own native tongue. Violent gangs of pro-Japanese hoodlums roam the streets. And into this chaos steps Jing Hao (Ou Hao), a high schooler who – with his closest friends – forms a rival band of pro-Chinese street fighters, determined to even the odds, using violence and fear as their tools. But Jing Hao’s gang focus is derailed when he meets a mild-mannered woman named Liu He (Jing Tian). He falls for her at first sight, but is shocked to learn that she is actually his new school teacher! Her own version of protest involves the diligent study of Chinese language and culture – a fact that sets Jing Hao at odds with his violence-loving gang! “Fist and Faith” is a 2017 Chinese film that was directed by Jiang Zhuo Yuan.
