The Wasted Times

During the tumultuous period of the Sino-Japanese War, Lu (Ge You), a ruthless Chinese mob boss, faces a moral dilemma when pressured to collaborate with Japanese military occupiers. His brother-in-law Watanabe (Tadanobu Asano), a Japanese national posing as "Shanghainese," secretly works for the Japanese forces. Xiao Liu (Zhang Zi Yi), a promiscuous actress, becomes a victim of Watanabe's brutality when he rapes her and holds her captive for years after her husband sends her away. Following Japan's surrender in 1945, Lu encounters Xiao Liu in a Shanghai hospice, and they form an unlikely alliance to seek revenge against Watanabe. United by their shared trauma and desire for retribution, they embark on a quest to confront the man who destroyed their lives. This is a 2016 Chinese-Hong Kong film directed by Cheng Er.
