A straightforward mission turns into much more for an expert martial artist. During the tumultuous time of the Shenlong Era of the Tang Dynasty, martial artist Xie Yun Liu (Chen Si Yu) is commanded by his master to escort Prince Li Chong Mao (Huang Tian Qi) to the capital city of Chang'an.

As Yun Liu and Chong Mao are traveling through the Fenghua Valley, they witness Crown Prince Li Chong Jun (Sheng Zi Ming) and Princess Li Hua Wan (Ma Chun Rui) being attacked, and Yun Liu ends up reluctantly coming to the rescue. Hailed as their savior, Yun Liu is invited back to the imperial Li family’s mansion for a celebration, only to find himself in the thick of other assassination attempts by the warring Wu family.

When Yun Liu is challenged to a deadly battle by Lu Wei Lou (Li Xiang Zhe), the head of the Ming Sect, can he survive the predicament with his life?

It is the early years of the tumultuous Republic of China period of mainland Chinese history (1912–1949). Shanghai is a city divided into a number of jurisdictions, known as Concessions, mostly ruled by foreign powers – and crime is rife.

Gangs roam the city streets, knowing they can commit crimes in one concession and escape to another without a trace. The police’s methods have become increasingly brutal, while more and more of the police force is becoming corrupt.

Amid the chaos, one young man named Wu Qian (Huang Zi Tao) enters a lucrative but shady competition, in a desperate bid to help his best friend, Wei Cheng Feng (Liu Yu Ning), whose grandmother has been struck down by a debilitating illness.

However, taking part in this competition proves to be fateful for Wu Qian. He finds himself dragged into a bitter struggle between foreign despots and the local police.

But along the way, he also makes the acquaintance of when he meets beautiful, patriotic freedom fighter He Hong Yi (Zhang Xue Ying), who convinces him that the concessions system should be overthrown. The two are drawn together – only to be wrenched apart by the chaos around them.

With overseas tyrants and home-grown crime chiefs all vying for control of the city, Wu Qian and soon He Hong Yi find themselves caught up in a violent and dangerous power play – and ultimately separated.

Wu Qian longs for a reunion with He Hong Yi, but faces a massive setback when he is tortured and imprisoned by corrupt police officials. Fortunately, Wu Qian is a real tough cookie who is not short on street smarts and martial arts skills…

Can he fight his way out of prison, and into He Hong Yi’s arms? And how will their shared struggle against the corrupt system end?

A cowardly and struggling artist-turned-criminal named Lee Man (Aaron Kwok) is extradited from a prison in Thailand to Hong Kong to help the police track down a mysterious and fearsome criminal genius known only as Painter (Chow Yun Fat).

After initially refusing to talk, the police let Lee Man see a former girlfriend who tells him that Painter has killed her lover and wants to take her life, too. This eventually seems to convince him to spill the beans to the police.

He explains how when he was a struggling artist in Canada, Painter convinced him to join a counterfeit United States dollar printing ring – using Lee Man’s advanced copying skills.

Lee Man goes on to explain how he eventually joined Painter’s gang, having already lost everything he ever held dear – but eventually found he had bitten off far more than he could chew.

However, as Lee Man reluctantly remembers his time in the criminal gang, the plot begins to thicken – and he continues to warn of the terrible retribution that will befall him if Painter learns he is cooperating with the police.

In a village in feudal Chinese, terrifying goings-on occur when a portal between the mortal and supernatural realm opens up, leading to the disappearance of a number of teenage girls. The villagers seek out the services of Pu Song Ling (Jackie Chan), a veteran demon hunter, armed with a magical calligraphy brush. Pu Song Ling agrees to help, and joins forces with a young police detective named Fei (Austin Lin) as they try to track down the missing girls.

The duo enlists the help of some friendly monsters, but they will need all the support they can get if they are to fight the powers of evil. At the heart of the mystery is the Mirror Demoness (Lin Peng), as well as her sister Xiao Qian (Zhong Chu Xi), a beautiful female demon who is trying to return to the mortal realm. She begins to fall for another demon hunter named Ning Cai Chen (Ethan Juan). Will the forces of good succeed in repelling the evil spirits – and restoring peace to the land?

Under the rule of Emperor Huizong, the late Northern Song Dynasty found itself in a state of instability and unrest when counterfeit money began circulating widely throughout the capital. Tasked with finding those responsible for the surge in counterfeit currency, the Department Six Constabulary, led by their strict commander, Liu (Cheng Tai Shen), set out to do just that. Following a tip-off, the Department Six investigators rush to apprehend the suspect, only to find both the suspect and the evidence are already being taken into custody by an unknown secret agency commissioned by the Emperor himself.

Known as the Divine Constabulary, this heretofore unknown force has been working on the Emperor's behalf, entirely in secret. But with their presences now known by all, the commander of Department Six takes their existence as a personal threat. Hoping to bring down the rival agency, Liu secretly orders his best man, Leng Xue (Deng Chao), to infiltrate the Divine Constabulary and find a way to bring it down. Little does Liu know that his own agency has recently been infiltrated by agents working for the counterfeit currency mastermind.

With the Divine Constabulary spearheaded by Leng Xue and his comrades, Wu Qing (Liu Yi Fei), Zhui Ming (Ronald Cheng), and Tie Shou (Collin Chou), better known as The Four, a much more sinister plot than simple counterfeit currency is soon uncovered. Will the rival agencies find a way to put aside their differences for the greater good, or will their constant quarrels allow the entire world to fall into chaos?
