Kim Xuan is a Vietnamese actress who was born on August 26, 1956, in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. She made her acting debut in 1970, when she appeared in the film “Velvet Eyes.” She has since gone on to appear in scores of hit Vietnamese movies, dramas, and TV shows, including a memorable role in the long-running children’s TV title “Magical Family” (from 2009). More recently, she starred in the 2020 movie “The Drama Queen.”

Hang Duong (Huong Giang) is a movie and drama series stuntman who has always dreamed of becoming a woman – although he is somewhat nervous about having the required surgery. The question of transitioning has been moot for him, as the surgery is prohibitively expensive. But when he one day is witness to a bloody gangland murder, he finds himself on the run from dangerous mobsters. 

As the gangsters close in, he realizes that if she changes gender, he may avoid detection. So he plucks up the courage and has the operation. Now a beautiful woman, she is happy, but trouble strikes again as her father is taken ill. She must raise the money required to pay off the medical bills, so decides to join a beauty contest – in the hope of winning a lucrative grand prize. But returning to the public area leads the gangsters she was trying to escape from to return – in a bid to do away with the witness to their crimes once and for all... 

“The Drama Queen” is a 2020 Vietnamese movie that was directed by Kay Nguyen.
