Yuki Mio is a Japanese actress and singer who was born on April 5, 1999, in Yamagata Prefecture, Japan. She made her musical debut with the song “I Am a Princess” in 2012 and followed up in 2013 with a role in a drama series adaptation of the novel “Cloud’s Stairs.” She has since gone on to appear in the movies “One in a Hundred Thousand” (2020) and “No Call No Life” (2021).

Friends since middle school, Rino Sakuragi (Yuna Taira) and Ren Kiritani (Alan) have all but grown up together. Now in high school, Rino’s feelings for Ren have grown into something much stronger than friendship but she’s afraid of what might happen, should she confess how she feels for one of her closest friends.

With her feelings for Ren growing by the day, Rino has no idea that Ren’s feelings towards her have changed over the years as well. Unable to hide his feelings any longer, Ren decides the time is right to confess how he feels to Ren. Overjoyed to have her feelings reciprocated, Rino and Ren waste no time in becoming an official couple. Enjoying all of the sweet firsts that come with and new relationship and young love, Rino and Ren are indescribably happy. Sadly, that happiness can only last so long.

Not long after they start dating, Rino is diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), a progressive neurodegenerative disease that weakens muscles and impacts physical function. Faced with immeasurable challenges as Rino’s body gives out on her a little more every day, can the two hope to share a bright future?

In the 1980s, Ayuko (Yuki Mio) is a high school girl who moves to Okayama from Tokyo, transferring to a local school. But getting used to this new school is not easy for her: The other girls find her mannerisms and accent strange and begin to mock and tease her. She feels unwelcome and fears she is about to become the subject of a bullying campaign. But a fellow student named Takemi (Adachi Rika) soon steps in help…

Ayuko spends her free time drawing comic strips featuring her “boyfriend.” Takemi takes an interest in these, and eventually the two girls become very close friends. But what brought them together could eventually cause them to part – the two have a bitter dispute over a matter at the heart of the comic...and eventually part. Now, 30 years later, Ayuko (now played by Shirahane Yuri) has become a celebrated professional manga artist. She is invited to return to her old high school to speak to the students. But, at the event, she is suddenly reunited with Takemi (now played by Kei Aran), who has gone on to become a teacher at the school. Will their friendship rekindle after all this time?

“Fantastic Girls” is a 2015 Japanese movie that was directed by Akiko Ohku.
