Park Ji Sung is a South Korean former professional soccer midfielder and the most successful Asian player in history. Born in Seoul, South Korea, on February 25, 1981, he began playing soccer during his fourth year of elementary school. He played for Myongji University until 1999, when he was given a chance to train with the South Korea Olympic Team. Invited to join the squad, he made his debut as a member of the national team on April 5, 2000. That same year he signed with the Kyoto Purple Sanga where he played until 2003. Moving to the Netherlands to play for the Dutch club, PSV Eindhoven, he became one of the top contributors of goals and assists during the 2004-05 season. In July, 2005, he signed with Manchester United and stayed with them through the 2011-12 season. On July 9, 2012, he signed with Queens Park Rangers and played with them for a season before returning to PSV, on loan, for the 2013-14 season. Shortly after the end of the season, he announced his retirement from professional soccer. Over the course of his professional career, he repeatedly made history as he was the first Asian soccer player to have won the UEFA Champions League, to play in a UEFA Champions League final, and win the FIFA Club World Cup. He currently serves as an ambassador for Manchester United.
