Huang Bo is a Chinese actor and singer who was born on August 26, 1974, in Qingdao, Shandong Province. He graduated from the Beijing Film Academy. He made his debut in the 2000 movie “Get In and Go,” before returning with the smash hit movie “Crazy Stone” in 2006. He has since gone on to become one of China’s most popular actors, and has appeared in numerous drama series titles, including 2010’s “The Outlander.” His more recent movie credits include “Crazy Alien” (2019) and “Lost in Russia” (2020).

In Wuhan, China, at the epicenter of what will eventually become the global coronavirus pandemic, a group of ordinary folks is trying to get to grips with a brand new way of life. At eighteen, Lang Ping (Bai Lang) was a strong-willed young woman with an unwavering passion for volleyball. Enduring the rigorous training of her coach, Yuan Wei Min (Wu Gang), Lang Ping was eventually teamed up with hitting partner, Chen Zhong He (Peng Yu Chang), a slightly disgruntled fellow athlete who has been forced to put his own career aside to assist with the national women’s volleyball team. Working hard to hone her skill, Ping’s dedication eventually elevates her to the position of the team’s star player. With the entire world watching, Ping leads the Chinese Women’s Volleyball Team through a series of wins that culminates in a showdown between China and Japan in the 1981 World Cup.

More than two decades later, Lang Ping (Gong Li) has gone from China’s star player to head coach of Team USA’s women’s volleyball team. After moving to California, Ping went straight to work, preparing her team for the 2008 Beijing Olympics. In a compilation of seven short films, seven directors explore the history of modern China and its people, going back to the 1940s and the aftermath of World War II, on the eve of the birth of the People’s Republic of China, through to the 1960s, the 1980s, the 1990s, and finally the 2010s, with stars like Song Jia and Ou Hao making appearances.

The first film focuses on an engineer struggling to organize a ceremony to mark the birth of the nation and the second tells the story of a love-sick nuclear scientist. In the third film, a young boy does what he can to help his neighborhood watch the gold medal match of the women’s volleyball competition in the 1984 Olympic Games.

The remaining films focus on more recent events, including two groups of people preparing for the handover of Hong Kong by the British colonial government in 1997. There is another Olympic story in a film about events surrounding the 2008 Olympics, which were held in Beijing, as a taxi driver decides to gift a ticket he had bought for his own son to another boy.

In the sixth film, two homeless boys watch a spectacular space mission in the 2010s. And in the final film, a female air force pilot attempts to ensure that a military parade to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the end of the Second Sino-Japanese War goes off without a hitch
