Bong Joon Ho is a South Korean film director and screenwriter. He was born on September 14, 1969 in Daegu, South Korea, and made his debut in the world of film in 1994. Known for his fascination with strong subject matter and meticulous attention to detail, his films have a reputation for being works of the highest craft and quality. Often filled with dark humor and sudden mood shifts, his ability to take audiences on an emotional roller coaster ride, while simultaneously pushing the boundaries of the film’s genre, are what make his work truly special. In 2019, he won the Cannes Film Festival’s Palm d'Or for his film, “Parasite”. In 2020, this same film brought home Academy Awards for Best Picture, Directing, International Feature Film, and Writing (Original Screenplay) at the Oscars.
