Da Rim is the youngest child of a family that runs a laundry shop. She has a vibrant character, but she was diagnosed with a rare eye disease at 14 years old that would slowly narrow her vision. Time goes by, and Da Rim slowly begins to lose her vision. She attempts to do everything she can before she can't see anymore, like reading all the books and movies in the world and even more. Right before Da Rim loses her sight completely, Gang Ju, a college alumnus and the son of a conglomerate family, shows up before her. Their relationship becomes twisted due to a careless slip of the tongue, and Gang Ju becomes a hated man due to an unexpected accident. One day, her family learns that she can regain her vision with an expensive surgery they could never afford. Hee Tae becomes the pride of Gwangju when he enters Seoul National University College of Medicine with top marks. His best friend Kyung Soo, an avid pro-democracy activist, insists they open an illegal clinic for students on the run from the government. One day, a factory worker is injured during a protest. In exchange for the costs of discreetly transporting himself and the factory worker to his hometown, Hee Tae must go to a meeting with a potential marriage partner arranged by his father. At this meeting, Hee Tae meets Myeong Hee, a nurse persevering through the hardships of life. She only agrees to go to this meeting in lieu of her friend Soo Ryeon, because she needs to come up with the airfare to go study in Germany. However, Myeong Hee and Hee Tae end up falling in love. In May of 1980, amidst the heated passion and cries for democracy that reverberate throughout Gwangju, Hee Tae and Myeong Hee find themselves in a twist of fate.

Yeom Sek Jin (Lee Jung Jae) is a Korean resistance fighter during the 1930s Japanese occupation of Korea. He plans out the assassination of a Japanese commander and hires Ahn Ok Yoon (Jun Ji Hyun), a skilled sniper. Ok Yoon takes on the mission, along with her comrades Soksapo (Jo Jin Woong) and Hwang Duk Sam (Choi Duk Moon), to fight for Korean independence.

The Japanese send government sends contract killers Hawaii Pistol (Ha Jung Woo) and his partner Buddy (Oh Dal Soo) after Ok Yoon and her men. But can Ok Yoon carry out her mission when there is a traitor among them?
