Zhang Yi Xing is a Chinese singer, songwriter and actor. Born on October 7, 1991, he also is known by his stage name Lay as a member of the South Korean-Chinese boy group EXO and its subunit EXO-M. He landed his first acting role at the age of 6 and then won third place in the television talent competition show “Star Academy” in 2005. He debuted with EXO in 2012 and also has released a successful solo mini-album that shot to the top of the charts. Zhang Yi Xing has enjoyed a successful career in music, films and television series, including “The Mystic Nine” (2016) and “The Mystic Nine Tetralogy” (2016). He is considered one of the most popular and influential entertainers working in China today.

Drawn in by the prospect of a lucrative job offer, computer programmer Pan Sheng (Lay Zhang) gets on a plane with a group of other recruits to join an overseas gaming company. However, things are not as they seem: during a layover, Pan Sheng and the others are whisked away to an abandoned factory in the countryside, where they're imprisoned and forced to participate in cyber fraud schemes. Pan Sheng meets Liang An Na (Gina Jin), an aspiring model who was unwittingly recruited to help lure in potential victims. One of An Na's targets ends up addicted to the group's online gambling scheme, even attempting suicide after draining his savings. His girlfriend alerts the police, and dedicated police officer Zhao Dong Ran (Yong Mei) takes the case on, aiming to dismantle the operation and rescue the trapped workers. The year is 1402, the first year of the reign of Yongle, Emperor of the Ming Dynasty.

In a fit of rage one day, the impulsive and ill-tempered Emperor orders the execution of royal physician Jing Qing and his entire family.

All die, save one – Jing Qing’s eldest daughter (Tang Wei) – who is rescued by a nobleman named Sun Zhong. The latter adopts her and names her Sun Ruo Wei.

The manipulative, power-mongering Qingzheng Cult has plans for Sun Ruo Wei, however, and plots to marry her off to one of the Emperor’s sons.

Despite finding herself in a union with the grandson of the hateful man who took her family’s life, Sun Ruo Wei discovers that the Xuande Emperor is very unlike his grandfather. Little by little, she starts to believe that goodness and perhaps love live within his heart.

When she gives birth to a son – the new Crown Prince – she must also think about how to help him rule, and one day become Emperor in his own right.

Before they can start their mission, they must find medicine to help Er Yuehong's wife who is terminally ill. 

Along the way, they'll meet the young mistress of the hotel Yin Xinyue (Zhao Liying) and discover a dangerous plot that could take down the people of Changsha. 

Will they be able to help Er Yuehong's wife and unravel a mystery that could save their people? 

"The Mystic Nine" is a 2016 prequel to "The Lost Tomb."
