Ishibashi Ryo, born Ishibashi Hideki, is a Japanese singer and an award-winning actor. He was born on July 20, 1956, in Kurume, Fukuoka, Kyushu, Japan, and made his debut in the entertainment industry in 1978 when ARB, the rock band he started in 1977, made their official debut. Though his roles in a number of Japanese horror films released around the turn of the century gained him global fame, he took his first film role in 1986. Since then, he has appeared in a wide variety of films and television dramas, including “Parasite in Love” (2021).

Sato Shinohara (Tsuchiya Tao) runs a budget-friendly restaurant in a busy urban area with her mother. The restaurant is very unassuming, but it has a lot of regular customers. And most of them frequently come because of Sato Shinohara’s welcoming attitude and kind personality. She has been dating a man named Kenta Miyama (Matsushita Kouhei), who loves her dearly. One day, he decides to pop the question – and she happily accepts.

But this duo cannot sail off into the sunset just yet, as there is a very large complication – namely, Kenta Miyama’s family. This formerly noble family can trace its past back four centuries and happens to hark back to Japan’s feudal past. They are exceptionally wealthy and are used to high society life. The idea of their beloved son marrying a mere “commoner” like Sato Shinohara is abhorrent to them. Kenta Miyama assures her that his family will come around – and warm to her. But, despite his reassurances, his family continues to object: Can Sato Shinohara win them over with her unique charms? Or is their union destined to fail before they even tie the knot?

This drama was based on a manga series of the same name by Koyama Yukami.

“Involvement in Family Affairs” is a 2022 Japanese drama series that was directed by Ryo Tanaka, Toshiyuki Mitsuhashi, and Yusuke Mito.

As a man who suffers from extreme mysophobia, Kengo Kosaka (Kento Hayashi) doesn’t have an easy life. With such an extreme fear of contamination dictating his life, Kengo has an incredibly difficult time being around people; as such, he’s never been able to maintain any sort of relationship for long. Essentially cut off from the rest of the world, Kengo can’t deny the fact that he’s incredibly lonely.

Hijiri Sanagi (Nana Komatsu), on the other hand, suffers from her own set of excessive fears. A high school student suffering from scopophobia, or the fear of being stared at, Hijiri has a difficult time at school; which would explain why she skips more times than not. Unable to be around people for long, Hijiri is much happier on her own. But after fate brings Hijiri and Kengo together, things slowly begin to change.

Finding an odd sort of comfort in the company of someone who understands what it’s like to live with an extreme phobia, Kengo and Hijiri naturally draw closer together. As their feelings deepen, they find themselves becoming truly happy; but how long is their newfound happiness destined to last?

Adapted from the novel of the same name written by Sugaru Miaki, “Parasite in Love” is a 2021 Japanese romance film directed by Kensaku Kakimoto.
